Carmarthen East and Dinefwr Conservatives have announced their candidate to stand in the 2015 General Election.

Matthew Paul, a native of West Wales, was chosen during a Special General Meeting on July 17.

Mr Paul lives in Llandovery and is married with two daughters. He works as a barrister in Cardiff, specialising in regulatory and public law.

Mr Paul said: “I am delighted and honoured to have been selected as the Welsh Conservative Party’s candidate for the 2015 general election.

“I will be campaigning for economic growth in Carmarthenshire’s private sector, better health care and schools, and for the re-election of a Conservative government next spring.

“Nationally, Labour took us to the brink of economic catastrophe, and Ed Miliband can’t be trusted with the recovery.

“The Labour regime in Cardiff and Carmarthenshire’s Labour-led Council are mismanaging our public services, and I will hold them to account”.

Anthony Frost, President of the Carmarthen East and Dinefwr Conservative Association, said: “In Matthew Paul we have an excellent local candidate who is absolutely committed to Carmarthenshire.

“The Conservative-led UK government has put the right policies in place for economic recovery, and is making radical reforms to public services that should benefit the whole of the UK.

“Matthew will campaign hard to make sure Wales does not get left behind. He will make a superb Member of Parliament for this constituency.”

Tycroes county councillor Callum Higgins has been nominated to contest the election for the Labour Party while Plaid Cymru’s Jonathan Edwards will look to hold the seat he won with a majority of 3,481 in 2010.
