Members of Carmarthenshire People First – the charity and advocacy group for people with learning disabilities in the county – are visiting shops in Ammanford with a request to place charity collection boxes in store.

Many businesses have collection tins for national and international charities on their counters for generous customers to put their small change “in the box”.

While giving to those bigger charities is to be applauded, let’s make sure it is not at the expense of our local good causes.

The Guardian is delighted to support our local good causes by having a Carmarthenshire People First charity box on our front counter and we would urge other local businesses to do the same.
