AMMANFORD grandfather Alfred Broome has won his two-year campaign calling for traffic calming measures along Pantyffynnon Road.

As reported in the South Wales Guardian, residents of Pantyffynnon have been forced to endure speeding traffic along the stretch of road between New Road and Mill Terrace and Mr Broome has been at the forefront of efforts to tackle the problem.

Carmarthenshire County Council has confirmed that the authority’s traffic engineer is now in a position to prepare a scheme to provide various traffic calming features on the thoroughfare.

“I’m over the moon that my constant moaning has not gone unnoticed, it’s taken a long time, but I’m glad that something is finally being done,” said Mr Broome.

“I’ll be even more pleased once the traffic calming measures are actually in place.”

The proposals, backed by MP Jonathan Edwards and County Councillor Deian Harries, will be funded using a Section 106 developer contribution with a matchfunded contribution from the council’s traffic section, likely to total more than £50,000.

Additionally, the local authority has advised it would be willing to accommodate the opinions of local residents when it comes to preparing the design of the traffic calming scheme.

Jonathan Edwards MP said: “I’m delighted that the efforts of local residents, working with local councillor Deian Harries, have resulted in traffic calming measures being approved.

“I am pleased to have supported the community’s endeavours and hope the new traffic calming measures can be installed as soon as possible for the benefit of all road users and local residents.”

County executive board member for transport and engineering services Cllr Colin Evans added: “It is good news that the council’s traffic engineer is now in a position to prepare a scheme.”

There will be full public consultation and the necessary traffic orders posted before any works start.
