The Garnant artist who has created the Crown for the 2014 National Eisteddfod has been congratulated by the leader of Carmarthenshire County Council.

Garnant councillor and council leader Kevin Madge met Angharad Pearce Jones, who designed and created the head-piece, which will be presented for a sequence of 10 free verse poems of no more than 250 lines in total, titled ‘Tyfu’ (Grow) at the event in Llanelli.

This year’s Crown and the financial prize are donated by Carmarthenshire County Council.

Cllr Madge said: I’m proud that the council is donating a magnificent Crown produced by a local artist as we welcome the National Eisteddfod back to Carmarthenshire.

“I would like to congratulate Angharad on producing such a beautiful piece of work.”

Council executive board member with responsibility for the National Eisteddfod Cllr Keith Davies said: “It is an honour for us as a council to present the National Eisteddfod Crown in Carmarthenshire.

“We have had the pleasure of working with Angharad Pearce Jones throughout the journey of commissioning, planning and producing the Crown, and we thank her for her enthusiasm and creativity."
