The family of a 21-year-old Towy Valley woman killed in a fatal road accident on Saturday night have spoken of their pride at their daughter’s achievements.

Megan Thomas, from Llandovery, died following a collision on the A40 between Llandeilo and Nantgaredig at 10pm on Saturday, May 31.

Megan was the loving daughter to Bethan and Howard Thomas and their respective partners Roy and Louise.

She was also a loving sister to Gareth and half-sister to Aimee.

She was also close to extended family members Mark, Claire, Tracey and Caitlin, who along with other relatives who will miss her dearly, a spokesman for the family said.

“Losing Megan has had a devastating effect on all her family and friends as well as others who have known her throughout her journey in life,” the spokesman said.

“Megan’s family are extremely proud of her achievements at such a young age.”

Megan left school at the age of 16 and attended Graig College where she studied outdoor pursuits.

She would regularly participate in outdoor activities such as rock climbing, base jumping, white water rafting, kayaking and mountain biking, and was also heavily involved with the Organised Kaos Youth Circus in Gwaun Cae Gurwen.

A great music lover, Megan enjoyed attending festivals and would assist organisers with pyrotechnic displays.

“Megan was extremely proud to have recently been accepted to Buxton University to complete a degree in Outdoor Pursuits and Education to enable her to eventually lecture this interest of hers to others,” the spokesman said

“She was a caring and loving person and worked full-time as a care assistant for adults with special needs – a job which she really enjoyed.

“Megan will be very sadly missed by her family and friends who would like to thank everyone who has offered their support and kind wishes.”

Meanwhile, Dyfed-Powys Police are calling for anyone who may have information about the collision, which involved Megan’s red Peugeot car and a silver Suzuki car.

The driver and passenger of the Suzuki received serious injuries and were taken to Glangwili Hospital for treatment.

The A40 was closed for a number of hours to allow the emergency services to deal with the casualties and commence a detailed investigation.

Police request any witnesses to the collision, or persons using that section of road who may be able to assist the investigation to contact the Roads Policing Unit at Crosshands on 101.
