A kind hearted Saron volunteer for older people’s charity Royal Voluntary Service (formerly WRVS), has been invited to attend a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, June 4, for her outstanding volunteer work in the community.

Shirley Collins, aged 80, has been volunteering for the Royal Voluntary Service for 24 years and has spent over 20 years volunteering as a community transport driver.

In addition to this, Shirley became a Good Neighbours volunteer in 2010 and later a Client Support Volunteer, assisting older people to find services in their local community and help them live happy, healthy and independent lives at home.

Anna Evans, Royal Voluntary Service locality manager for Carmarthenshire said: “Shirley is a remarkable volunteer who has dedicated a vast amount of time to volunteering in the community. Her commitment to helping others is invaluable and she always goes above and beyond her line of duties.”

Royal Voluntary Service supports over 100,000 older people each month to stay independent in their own homes for longer with tailor made solutions.

Through its army of 40,000 volunteers, the charity runs services such as Good Neighbours (companionship), Meals-on-Wheels and Books-on-Wheels that alleviate loneliness and help older people.

Royal Voluntary Service also provides practical support for older people who have been in hospital through its On Ward Befriending and Home from Hospital services.
