FIRST Minister Carwyn Jones was in Ammanford last week to cut the sod at the site of a new £14.3 million extra care scheme in Tirydail.
Mr Jones joined council leader Kevin Madge on a visit to the Gwynfryn site on Thursday, with representatives of the council and Family Housing Association who are delivering the scheme.
Contractors TRJ have started work on the scheme, which will offer 50 self-contained apartments for older people, with 24-hour care on site.
Twelve new affordable homes will also be built.
“This centre will enable people to live in a secure, supportive environment with as much independence as possible,” said Mr Jones.
County council leader Cllr Kevin Madge said: “This will give people the best that money can buy.”
