PLANS are afoot to convert a former discount store in Ammanford into a restaurant.
The former Home, Garden and Leisure shop, based at the bottom of Quay Street – locally known as ‘Harrods’ – was purchased at auction last October by Khadim Hussain.
Mr Hussain plans to convert the building into a cafe and restaurant plus function room serving Indian and British cuisine. “It’s an exciting time for us,” said Mr Hussain, who owns the petrol stations in Glanaman and Trebanos.
“Everything is at the planning stage at the moment, but I think a restaurant will be perfect for this end of town.”
The restaurant will be a new venture for the Hussain family, with Khadim’s son, Cwmaman town councillor, Shahid Hussain, also on board.
“The building is in a perfect position for a restaurant and we are hopeful we will gain planning permission,” said Cllr Hussain.
If the plans are approved, work will start later in the year.
