AMMANFORD Police Station is re-opening to the public – for four days, anyway.
The Foundry Road station, which was built in 2001 under under a £20m private finance initiative (PFI) deal, is costing Dyfed-Powys Police £700,000 a year – nearly a fifth of its property management budget.
It has been closed to the public for over a year as part of stringent budget cutbacks – and police have been using a van at Carregaman car park as a mobile office.
But the station re-opened to the public today and will be open again next Tuesday (10am to 2pm) as well as on Friday, April 4 and Friday, April 11 (2pm to 6pm) while the mobile police station is unavailable.
"This is due to the mobile police station being in for repairs," said a Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman."PCSOs will be available to discuss any concerns."
