NEXT stop for the Carmarthenshire Baton Relay is Ammanford.
As part of its month long journey across the county, the baton touched down at Dyffryn Amman School yesterday morning following a 10-mile journey from the Gwendraeth Valley.
Already the baton has clocked up 90 miles after spending the last ten days touring schools in Carmarthen and Llanelli.
The baton will spend two days at the school before heading off to Llandeilo on Thursday morning.
A host of activities have taken already taken place including Commonwealth Games themed assemblies, lessons, sports activities and displays.
Organised by Carmarthenshire County Council’s sports development team the baton travels over 100 miles in a bid to inspire the county’s youngsters ahead of the Commonwealth Games this summer.
Senior sports and leisure manager, Carl Daniels said: “The baton relay has already inspired many people throughout its journey and it’s great to see the enthusiasm from the children taking part in the celebrations.”
The baton was created by QE High School has a local flavour and features a dragon and Carmarthen’s own legendary wizard Merlin.
It will make its way around the county before ending its journey on April 4 in Llandovery.
