Proposals to close one of Ammanford's two residential care homes for the elderly have been put on hold as part of Carmarthenshire county council's budget strategy.
The authority had planned to close either Glanmarlais or Tegfan Homs within six months leaving many residents - and their families - deeply concerned about the levels of care available n the Amman Valley.
However, in a budget presentation to full council this morning, Councillor Jeff Edmunds announced that a financial turnaround within the departmental budget would ensure that both homes would remain open.
