MORE than 70 people, including a group of children from Llangadog Primary School, braved stormy weather on Friday to demonstrate in support of Llangadog’s recycling centre, which faces the loss of a vital contract from Carmarthenshire County Council.
The council had contracted All Waste Services to provide recycling services in Llangadog, but the contract expires next month and the council says it cannot afford to renew it.
The centre’s supporters argue it is a vital public service for north-east Carmarthenshire, providing about ten local jobs and that there is no alternative centre nearby.
County councillor Andrew James, who is also fighting to keep the centre open, said it served 20,000 people and that closure would lead to fly-tipping, which would damage the environment.
