A 29-YEAR-OLD Llandybie man has been granted a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to £100 after he failed to go home when ordered to do so by police following a drinking binge.

Anthony Wayne Evans, of 52 Blaenau Road, was sent home by officers on patrol in Ammanford at 8.15pm on December 7 due to his drunkenness, but was spotted nearby soon afterwards.

Magistrates in Llanellli were told how the officers became concerned by Evans’ condition and issued him with a notice ordering him to leave the locality.

“However, a short time later another officer saw him in the street and arrested him for failing to comply with the order,” prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard Jones told the court.

Richard Morgan, defending, told the court how Evans had spent much of the day drinking.

“He got back from work and started drinking early,” said Mr Morgan.

“He consumed a lot of alcohol in his house before going into Ammanford with friends.

“He was not causing any trouble but was asked to leave simply because he was drunk.

“This was a relatively minor matter.”

Mr Morgan said Evans had been diagnosed as suffering from depression and since being prescribed medication had “cut back on his alcohol consumption”.

Evans admitted failing to comply with the directions of a police constable.

He was granted a 12-month conditional discharge but ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £15 legal surcharge.
