THE hunt is on for a new home for Llandovery Post Office after news that the current post office, which sub-postmaster Robin Ennion has been running alongside a gift and stationary shop in Market Square, is no longer viable.

Mr Ennion, sub-postmaster for 12 years, said that while footfall to the shop had increased dramatically, income derived from the post office had dwindled.

“We just do not have a limitless pot,” he said. “The income has gradually eroded – but there will always be a post office in Llandovery.”

Mr Ennion resigned from the town council last month because “we wanted to put a clear gap between the council and what we’re doing in the post office.”

A Post Office spokesperson said: “We have been advised by the current Sub-postmaster at Llandovery Post Office that he would like to give-up running the branch subject to a new operator being found and appointed in the town.

" An advertisement has been placed for interested potential new operators to come forward, which closes on January 3.

"We would like to re-assure customers that we are committed to maintaining services in the town.

"Any proposed change to the service would be subject to a period of public consultation in which customers and other interested parties would be able to provide feedback on our plans.”
