A FORMER employee of Cartref Care home, housed in the grounds of Ammanford’s Castle, says he can help find the entrance to the secret tunnel that is said to lead to Carreg Cennen Castle.

UK Hidden Secrets – a team of experts in legends and myths – are keen to find the passage and last week the Guardian launched an appeal for anyone with information.

Thomas Gerald Cannon from Penybanc, a gardener and handyman at the care home, believes he may have seen the very door that could lead them into the tunnel.

“I remember an old door down in the cellar, it reminded me of a big oven door with a huge padlock,” said Thomas, who worked in the home for over 20 years.

“I would often wonder what was behind the door, it didn’t seem to have a purpose” he said.

However, following Thomas’ return from a break back in the late 1980’s he found the door had gone and replaced by bricks.

“I often asked my supervisor what was behind the door, but was fobbed off,” I’m sure someone must have known what was on the other side,” he said.

“I’d be happy to go down with the team from UK Hidden Secrets, I can tell them exactly where this door was located.”
