TYCROES-based Carmarthenshire county councillor Calum Higgins has been selected as Welsh Labour's candidate for the seat of Carmarthen East and Dinefwr.
A trainee barrister, Mr Higgins is vice-chair of the Welsh Language Census group, a member of Cor Meibion Cwm Aman and a member of the Mid and West Wales Fire Authority.
“It is a fantastic honour to stand for Labour in the area I was born and brought up," he said. "The people of Carmarthen East and Dinefwr are being unfairly hit by the cost of living crisis caused by the failed economic policies of the Tories and Lib Dems – and all Plaid can do is protest from the sidelines.
“Our communities have been hit hard and now, more than ever, local people need a Labour MP working as part of the party of government after 2015 to deliver the economic growth we need to freeze energy bills and undo the worse of the Tories.
“Plaid can no longer be trusted to put local people first; the willingness of their new leadership to do deals with the Tories is a betrayal of their values and their supporters.
“My campaign starts here – I’ll be hitting the doorsteps and pounding the pavements every week between now and the election, speaking to as many people as possible.”
