Mid and West Wales AM Rebecca Evans took in the sights of Ammanford recently when she can to have her eyes checked.

Mrs Evans visited Evans & Hughes Optometrists in Quay Street to mark the launch of the new Wales Eye Care Service making it easier for the public to receive improved levels of eye care on the High Street.

Following her test, Mrs Evans said: “The new Wales Eye Care Service together with hard working optometrists like Mr Hughes and Davies will not only help relieve some of the burden on the NHS but will also help community eye care by preventing many avoidable cases of preventable sight loss.

‘Regular eye examinations are an important health check-up and can play a vital role in the detection of various health conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration’.

Principle optometrist Heddwyn Davies said: ‘We are proud to have Rebecca visiting us as part of our commitment to this new service. “We hope that Mrs Evans’ visit will encourage as many people as possible to have regular eye examinations.

“With more than half of all sight loss in the UK being recognised as avoidable, we are really pleased that the new Wales Eye Care Service will provide us with the opportunity to see our patients close to their homes, in the community.”
