A REGISTERED sex offender from the Towy Valley now living in Tycroes has appeared before magistrates to admit three charges of possessing indecent images of children.

Robert David Jones, of 9 Fforestfach, but formerly of Foel Bach in Llandeilo, also pleaded guilty to two charges of possession of extreme pornographic material portraying individuals carrying out sex acts with dogs.

Llanelli magistrates were told that the material was discovered when the police visited the 24-year-old’s home in Llandeilo on October 31, 2012.

Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told the court that officers had carried out “an unannounced home visit”

at Jones’ address after concerns had been raised “because of his behaviour”.

The charges relate to 83 separate images and video clips discovered on a computer at the property.

“You will have serious concerns about the content involved and Mr Jones’ background,” Ms Vaughan told magistrates.

Jones, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, had previously received a caution after pleading guilty to similar offences, leading to his inclusion on the sex offenders’ register.

Asperger’s Syndrome is a disorder on the autism spectrum causing significant difficulties with social interaction and empathy – sometimes leading to inappropriate behaviour.

Individuals with the syndrome often carry out repetitive patterns of behaviour or actions despite seemingly high levels of communication and thinking skills.

Magistrates told Jones that they had declined jurisdiction over the case and he would be sent to appear before a crown court judge.

They also ordered that Jones undergo assessment by the Probation Service.

Jones will be sentenced at Swansea Crown Court on June 11.
