A BONLLWYN pensioner has gone before magistrates accused of benefit and pension fraud amounting to more than £24,000.
Roger James Milligan, of 11 Aberlash Road, appeared at Llanelli court to deny two charges of making false statements to obtain benefits following claims made on July 22, 2008, and August 17, 2008.
Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard Jones told magistrates: “This gentleman is alleged to have claimed benefits over a substantial period starting in 2008 when he was not entitled to them because he was working and his was wife working.
“He is accused of acting dishonestly over a period of four years.”
Due to the sums of money involved the case against Milligan was considered “borderline” in terms of begin heard by magistrates or a judge and jury.
Magistrates declined jurisdiction and passed the case to the higher court.
Milligan will appear at Swansea Crown Court for a case management hearing on Friday.
