AMMANFORD Park needs a high-quality CCTV system to eradicate unnecessary vandalism, according to local county councillor Deian Harries.

Speaking after a visit to the park to inspect the condition of the toilets, Cllr Harries said he was concerned at the amount of damage.

“We need CCTV so that people can feel safe when visiting the park and also the splashpads need to be looked after,”

he said.

“It is essential that we have cameras to safeguard everyone, now we are going to be responsible for two areas of the park.”

But Cllr Harries had words of praise for the newly-completed Amman Valley cyclepath which he had recently completed from Pontaman to Brynaman and back then down on to the bypass and on to Pantyffynnon.

“It was brilliant,” he said.

“There were a lot of families using the path.”

“There was one issue on the Garnant-Brynaman stretch where I helped a man in a wheelchair through the gates.

“They weren’t bike or wheelchair- friendly and I had to dismount a fewtimes.

“Pontaman to Garnant has bike-friendly gates which are obviously much better.”

Instal vandal proof European type hole in the ground, standing only toilets with no visible plumbing.Simple, but far to complicated for the council.
