STITCH IN TIME: Joann Smith has knitted in well with the Corgi Hosiery team.
FOLLOWINGsupport from the South West Workways project, 38-year-old Joann Smith from Ammanford has sewn up a job at clothing manufacturer Corgi Hosiery.
Joann had spent the previous 19 years raising her family and providing round-the-clock care for her late husband.
Having contacted Workways, an employment project backed with £12.6 million from the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government, she managed to secure work as a machinist at Corgi Hosiery, who have now offered her a permanent job.
Corgi company director Chris Jones said: “Joann has really fitted in well with the team.”
Darrel Williams, Workways employer liaison officer, said: “Joann’s confidence grew at each review we had with her. It was great to see the transformation.”
Mr Jones hopes to use Workways for his recruitment needs in the future and in fact has since recruited two more permanent employees through the project.
South West Workways is led by Neath Port Talbot Council in collaboration with Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Swansea councils.
