A LOCAL rugby club has been chosen as the venue for a much-anticipated battle of the bands to find Carmarthenshire’s hottest music act.

Betws RFC will, on Saturday, April 27, exclusively host the Carmarthenshire Battle of the Bands Competition 2013, which sees the victors not only crowned as best act, but win a guest spot on a stage at this year’s Beach Break Live music festival.

This massive competition is set to attract scores of musicians and fans to the Betws club and not only offers a great opportunity to local bands but will bring a huge boost to the area, too.

Beach Break Live has quickly earned a reputation as a must-visit event on the summer festival circuit. Held at Pembrey Country Park, the event attracts not only thousands of music fans but top acts, too, with last year’s bill including Labrinth, Friendly Fires, Chase and Status and Ben Howard.

The winners of the Battle of the Bands will find themselves performing in front of thousands – a chance in a lifetime for many local groups.

Betws RFC are now appealing for bands to submit a demo of their performance for a chance to battle each other in the final.

It could not be simpler to enter.

Simply submit a two-track CD and DVD of your band, either by post or online, by March 20. All entrants must be aged 18 or over.

Those who make it to the final will need to play four songs, two original and two covers, and are being urged to remember that while music and talent matters, showmanship and a great performance will be key to getting success.

April’s final is also set to be a massive night for music lovers, who are being offered the chance to enjoy the area’s finest unsigned acts all in one venue, with a sound system provided by Cadno Music Limited Llanelli, and staging provided by Club Oxygen, Swansea.

A spokesman for the club told the Guardian: “This is a massive opportunity, not just for the club but for any upand- coming band in the area and we are proud to be hosting it.

“We would like to thank the organisers of Beach Break Live for not only bringing such a fantastic event to our county but also for allowing local people to be involved in something so great.”
