Ammanford police praise public

THE streets of Ammanford were flooded with police officers on Friday afternoon after a car containing a quantity of drugs was stopped near the town centre.

The Guardian understands officers gave chase after two suspects who were being questioned tried to escape on foot.

Police flagged down cars, questioned bystanders and the Dyfed Powys helicopter circled above the townfor over an hour as the search for the two men intensified. One of the men was caught quickly but the hunt for his accomplice continued into the evening.

Sgt Teresa Ross was full of praise for the actions of “public spirited”Ammanford shoppers.

“This was quite a big operation and we couldn’t have asked for a better response from members of the public,” she said. “Once they realised what was going on, people couldn’t do enough for our officers.”
