AMMANFORD’S former sub-postmistress has admitted using £130,000 of stolen money.

Lorraine Johnson, aged 54, of Llandeilo Road, Llandybie, had earlier denied the offence and had been due to stand trial at Swansea crown court.

But before the jury was sworn in Johnson pleaded guilty to acquiring or using £130,976 between November 27, 2005, and November 1, 2007, knowing or suspecting itwas stolen.

Johnson’s husband, Anthony Stewart Johnson, aged 63, has already admitted forgery and stealing the money from Chelliah Yoganathan,whoruns a Llanelli care home.

He has also admitted using criminal property – themoney– and three offences of forging cheque stubs.

The judge, Mr Recorder David Miller, said both would be sentenced at a later date.

Lorraine Johnson, who wept throughout the hearing, was granted bail but warned there was “a high risk” of her going to prison.

Meanwhile, a proceeds of crime investigation is underway in an attempt to recover some of the money.
