Penygroes man faces child sex charges

A 24-YEAR-OLD man from Penygroes has been committed to crown court to stand trial in relation to three offences of engaging in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl.

David Leyton Rees, of 17 Caebryn Road, appeared before Llanelli magistrates on December 27 but declined to enter pleas to any of the charges.

Rees faces two allegations of engaging in nonpenetrative sexual activity with the girl and one charge of arranging the commission of a child sex offence.

The first offence was said to have taken place on April 5, 2012, with the second said to have occured on April 10.

The third charge relates to a phone message allegedly sent by Rees to the schoolgirl some time between April 5 and April 12.

Despite both Mr Reed and crown prosecutor Dennis Davies agreeing the allegations were suitable to be heard by magistrates, the bench declined jurisdiction.

Rees is due to appear before a judge at Swansea Crown Court on February 8 for a plea and case management hearing.

He was released on bail with an order not to contact the girl, her family or any witnesses.
