AMMANFORD will be tripping the light fantastic on Saturday (November 17) when the town gathers for the annual Christmas lights switch-on.

Bring your cameras, because this year promises to be better than ever with more than a few surprises in store.

Ammanford will be celebrating in style this year, with brand new lights, top entertainment and a spectacular entrance by Santa himself.

And that’s not to forget street entertainment, a big bus full of fun and Ammanford’s attempt to break the world record for the most elves in one place.

The recent renovation of Quay Street provides the backdrop for the fun-filled evening.

The recently planted trees which line the shopping parade, will be lit with stylish and attractive lights courtesy of Alun Griffiths (Contractors) Ltd who have been carrying out the works.

The details are a closely guarded secret but there will be other lights and displays throughout the town, making Ammanford shine brighter than ever.

The town council has doubled this year’s budget and have been planning hard to ensure the event surpasses people’s expectations.

Radio Carmarthenshire will be hosting the event and will be supplying the fun from 3pm, including local choirs, bands and music.

The Big Yellow Bus will be parked up all evening for the youngsters to have some fun.

At 3.30pm, elves will begin gathering in Quay Street for the official counting and the nail-biting wait to see if Ammanford has broken the record.

There will also be circus skills demonstrations from 3pm-5pm and elves on stilts from Organised Kaos.

There will be a juggler/fireeater from 5.15pm-5.35pm and a fun exercise class will help warm the elves up before the official pictures are taken of the record attempt.

Everyone will want to be on Quay Street at 5pm for the official switch-on of the lights, which will mark the countdown to the much-anticipated appearance by Father Christmas.

His exact style of entry is still top secret but you can be assured that this secret Santa will surprise everyone.

And no matter what his entrance is to be, he will have be ready to greet the children at The Pensioner’s Hall soon afterward.

The evening will be rounded off in style with a performance from top-rated local band Carbon at 5.30pm.
