HOPES of opening what would have been the first nightclub in Ammanford town centre since the 1970s have been quashed by planning chiefs.
They have refused planning permission for a nightclub in the old snooker hall above Shoppers World because of fears of noise and disturbance.
Mr David Griffiths, who had been expecting to run the enterprise, had argued it would help revive Ammanford town centre.
But local county councillor Deian Harries said nearby residents were alarmed at the possibility of disturbance and antisocial behaviour.
Graham Noakes, Carmarthenshire county council’s senior development management officer, agreed the potential for disturbance was too great.
