AN INVESTIGATION is underway after a man lost his arm when he was hit by a train between Ammanford and Llandybie on Saturday afternoon.

The 43-year-old was struck by the Shrewsbury to Swansea Arriva Trains Wales service shortly after 5pm.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to the line close to Brynmarlais level crossing, Waunfarlais Road, Llandybie, on Saturday after a report that a person had been struck by a train. Officers from BTP and Dyfed-Powys Police attended the incident, which was reported to police at 5.27pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered a man who had suffered serious injuries.

“Paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service also attended and the man was airlifted to Morriston Hospital.

He underwent surgery on Saturday night, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

“Officers remain in close contact with the man and his family.”
