Llandeilo tearoom car crash causes stir
2:00pm Thursday 25th October 2012 in News
A MOTORIST had a smashing time at a Llandeilo tearoom last week when he sent his hired Peugeot careering through the front windowof the building.
Staff at The Angelic Tearooms, in Rhosmaen Street, watched in horror as the hapless driver - understood to be a tourist at the wheel of a car with Spanish number plates - caused chaos on Wednesday afternoon.
“I was upstairs when I heard this almighty crash,” co-owner Layla Lewis told the Guardian. “This car had come straight through our front window.
“Luckily no-one was hurt because we had already closed, although one lady was still having a cup of tea and a scone. If we’d been open and there’d been more customers around it could have been much worse.
“It was a Spanish car, but the driver was English. He told us his handbrake had gone and that he’d suffered an attack of cramp.
“It just doesn’t make sense to us - he apparently narrowly missed two people before ploughing through our window.
We’re just having to pick up the pieces.”
Ms Lewis added that it was hoped the shop, which suffered structural damage, would re-open in time for the Llandeilo Festival Of The Senses next month.
A police spokeswoman said the cause of the crash was being investigated.
