A MAJOR project to get young people involved in sport in Carmarthenshire is being extended.

The successful 5 x 60 scheme is to be rolled out to all comprehensive schools in the county.

The programme, which is aimed at getting young people active for five 60-minute sessions every week, has been a huge hit in recent months.

Sporting clubs have been set up at Amman Valley, Gwendraeth, Maes yr Yrfa, Pantycelyn, St John Lloyd, Stradey and Tregib Schools.

More than 1,700 students have taken part in games and exercise since September.

Now organisers Carmarthenshire County Council have secured extra funding to extend it to all secondary schools, and will start working with them from September.
