A LION was spotted in Ammanford’s Bandstand Park on Thursday evening.
It was, however, discovered that it was an Ammanford Lions Club member, Barry (who originates from Essex) checking out the park for their Festival of Choirs event.
The Welsh flagship event of the nationwide Bandstand Marathon takes place on Sunday, the final day of the Paralympic Games.
The official closing event of the London 2012 Festival, Bandstand Marathon will see hundreds of outdoor community concerts take place throughout the UK in a national musical celebration of the London 2012 Games and a fantastic summer of sport and culture.
From 1pm until 5pm, Ammanford Park will be alive with music, presenting an eclectic line-up of local talent, with highlights including the muchloved Ammanford Town Silver Band, the 104-year-old Llandybie Male Voice Choir and Côr Persain and Lleisiau’r Cwn ladies choirs. Choirs from local schools will also take to the stage to entertain the crowds.
Ammanford Park will join in a collective moment across Bandstand Marathon events nationwide whereby musicians at each location will perform their own unique rendition of Coldplay’s anthemic hit Viva La Vida.
This will be performed by Ammanford TownSilver Band and will take place simultaneously at 2pm in bandstands across the UK, including the bandstand on the Olympic Park, ahead of Coldplay’s headline performance at the Paralympic Games closing ceremony later that evening.
“I was just trying to get a feel for the park and imagine the finale. We hope to see you all there for a great afternoon,” said Lion Barry.
