The Last Republic are back at Cwmgors RFC
6:00am Wednesday 8th August 2012 in What's On
AMMAN Valley guitar heroes The Last Republic return to Cwmgors RFC on Saturday to showcase new material in a warm-up concert ahead of their appearance at the Frequency Festival in Austria.
The band, whose influences range from The Cure to The Killers, will be supported by local band The Accused and special guests Carbon. It will be a particularly nostalgic night for Last Republic frontman Jonnie Owen as he returns to the venue where he played his first-ever-gig with The Accused – Hywel Edwards, Lyn Rees, Geraint Edwards and Jason Morgan.
Jonnie, who will be joining The Accused on stage on lead guitar, recalls following the band around all the local pubs and clubs and even as far afield as Cardiff. “I was just grabbing every ounce of inspiration I could from them,” he says. “Hywel even let me borrow one of his guitars before I finally got round to buying one!”
The Last Republic are pleased to give up-and-coming Carbon the same opportunity that The Accused gave Jonnie when he was starting out.
Price for the evening is £5 on the door. Doors open: 7.30pm.
