ONE of the world’s leading violin virtuosi, the New York-based Russian-American Alexander Markov, will appear on the bill for this summer’s Llandeilo Fawr Festival of Music.

Gold medal winner at the Paganini International Violin Competition, Mr Markov has appeared as a soloist with some of the world’s most celebrated orchestras, such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, the BBC and the Montreal Symphonies, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra and the Detroit Symphony.

He has worked with major conductors of our day, including Neeme Jarvi, Christoph Eschenbach and Ivan Fischer.

One of the 20th century’s finest musicians, Lord Yehudi Menuhin wrote; “He is without doubt one of the most brilliant and musical of violinists...Alexander Markov will certainly leave his mark on the music-lovers of the world and in the annals of the violin virtuosi of our day.”

Alexander Markov will perform at the opening concert on Saturday, July 14, at St Teilo’s Church.

With the festival running from July 14 –22, the town is sure to come alive with music as some of the world’s top international artists gather to perform in what is now a major event in the musical calendar.
