Tuesday club puts focus on kids’ films

Movies on Tuesdays Film Club for kids will be launched on January 26 at Pontardawe Arts Centre at 4.45pm.

With the success of its in-house Film Club and its new annual Film Festival for children and young people, Pontardawe Arts Centre is promoting specialist films to a younger generation by launching an after-school film club every Tuesday at 4.45pm for young people from eight to 13, with younger ages welcome when accompanied by an adult.

The Arts Centre is aiming to increase attendance of specialist films that will be screened regularly as well as mainstream films. With large multiplexes in local areas dominating the mainstream market, and DVD and other digital releases challenging cinema attendance across the board, the venue felt it may be able to offer something different to the young people in the community, by encouraging them to attend art house or world film for young people, with releases such as Whale Rider scheduled for later in the season.

The launch film, Disney Pixar’s Up (pg) will tie in with the animated films being screened as part of the New Horizons Film Festival (18 - 22 January) which features other animations from all over the world. Free refreshments will be available for the first Movies on Tuesdays.

Tickets cost £3 per screening, or £6 for a pass entitling you to any or all of the Movies on Tuesdays screenings within that month. For details call 01792 863722.
