Robert Powell celebrates Victorian life

AMMANFORD Arts Club brings another successful season to a close with the visit of one of Britain’s leading actors, Robert Powell, to the Miners’ Theatre this coming Sunday (May 6).

Powell has enjoyed a successful career in both film and television, and his unforgettable performance in the title role of Jesus of Nazareth, brought him instant and worldwide fame.

Powell will be appearing in A Victorian Celebration, which will evoke the triumphs and tragedies, the humour and the pathos of Victorian life, through the genius of Charles Dickens, Rudyard Kipling, Mrs Beaton, Elizabeth Barret Browning, Thomas Hardy, Edward Lear and others. “This will be a particularly appropriate way of marking the bicentenary of Charles Dickens’s birth,” said Arts Club chairman Gerald Jones. For tickets (£15) call Carmarthenshire Theatres on 0845 2263510 or 01269 597171 and some will be available on the door.
