PANTO fever is sweeping through Llangadog, a small rural village in the Towy Valley, and there is a real buzz of excitement in the air as the long awaited community charity pantomime, in aid of Cancer Research Wales, goes live this weekend.

Cancer has touched the lives of many people including those involved with this amateur production of Robinson Crusoe and the Pirates by Paul Reakes.

The group felt this was an appropriate way to bring the community together to help raise funds to fight this terrible disease.

What was originally a small idea amongst friends quickly snowballed into a bigger community project with people of all ages becoming involved.

The cast are all local residents who have little or no acting experience; all the sets, props and costumes have been made by local people with no charge and local businesses have donated items.

Llangadog’s youngest residents of the Cylch Meithrin also helped by make fish for an underwater scene.

Back in the summer pirates turned up at Llangadog’s Agricultural Show in their ship pulled by Tony the Pony to mark the launch of tickets going on sale and to kick start the fundraising.

The group then proceeded to carry out a raid on the centre of the village. Later they emptied their treasure chest and auctioned it off in the Goose and Cuckoo, which proved to be a successful night, where £1,129.50 was added to the charity pantomimes fundraising pot.

Luke Jones, the landlord of the Goose and Cuckoo, will be playing Robinson Crusoe in the pantomime.

Cancer Research Wales is a charity close to Luke’s heart, he has raised over £10,000 for them to date through great feats of endurance such as completing marathons and most recently the Dragon Duathlon. But Luke is swapping his trainers for the stage this weekend in his latest fundraising effort.

Tickets are available in Llangadog from The Goose and Cuckoo, Morgan's Newsagents and MAce, or you can contact Gemma on 01550 740616 or email henbont@googlemail.com.
