AMMANFORD Miners' theatre is set to stage the critically acclaimed Pits and Perverts as part of their Welsh tour marking the 30th anniversary of the Miner's strike.

Britain 1984. The height of the Miners Strike. As more communities within the UK continue to be marginalised, Pits and Pervets tells the unbelievably uplifting true story of an unlikely alliance and the birth of the Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) Group and their tireless support for miners and their families in South Wales.

This entertaining and poignant play is based on real events in Thatcher's Britain.

The play follows the story of Sean, who leaves Northern Ireland at the height of the troubles. After coming out as a gay man in 1980’s London, he becomes involved with the Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners group. Two miners from South Wales come to stay with Sean and his partner not realising they are a gay couple. The events that unfold impacts on all their lives.

Programming and Promotions Officer, Rhys Hopkin said “We’re delighted to be presenting this fantastic new play in Ammanford. With so many other anniversaries this year, it was important that we also remembered the Miners Strike of the 80’s, and this fresh new take on the story has given us the perfect opportunity. The Amman Valley was particularly affected by these events, and it’s only right that we commemorate the anniversary.”

Pits and Perverts is at the Miners’, Ammanford, on Saturday, September 20, at 7.30pm.

Tickets are priced at £10 and £8 concessions and are available from the Box Office on 0845 2526 3510 or via www.theatrausirgar.co.uk or form our box office situated at Ammanford Town Library.
