Bedrooms: 4

A character 4 bedroom detached property retaining much of its character and charm and offering spacious family accommodation. The property is in need of some sympathetic modernisation and set in 6 acres of grounds and land and situated close to Carmarthen town centre and Glangwili Hospital. In a popular picturesque location, the property itself replaced the original Castell Pigyn mansion and offers the potential for an annex with a large garage/workshop adjoining to the side (STP). Internal viewing is highly recommended to fully appreciate what the property has to offer.

History

The site of the former mansion. Listed in Historical Houses of Carmarthenshire. On the wooded slope overlooking the Gwili and its tributary Nant Crychian. The first known owner Thomas Woodford, came to West Wales with his brother in law Richard Davies, Bishop of St. Davids from 1561 to 1581and was living in Castell Pigyn in 1572. Sold to John Griffiths of Dryslwyn a surgeon who pulled down the old mansion and built a new one. He died in office as High Sheriff in 1722. It was then sold on as a decree of court to pay off encumbrances. A catalogue of the Castell Pigyn estate describes ' the old mansion - house of ruins on an eminence commanding a beautiful view of The Vale of Towy, and is a most desirable spot for a Gentlemans Residence. Bought by W.O. Price who pulled down the ruins and erected in 1831-2, a large mansion about 50 yards from the older one. It contained a double drawing room communicating by folding doors, drawing room, on the second floor were 15 bedrooms, dressing room and 3 wc's. The property was gutted by fire in 1970. The ruins were completely demolished in Autumn 1981, and there is nothing on the site today to remind us that for 400 years one of the county's historic homes had stood here.

Location

Situated on the outskirts of Carmarthen town in a picturesque location just off the Tywi Valley, close to the popular villages of Peniel and Abergwili and within walking distance of Glangwili hospital. Carmarthen town is approximately 1 mile distant and offers excellent shopping facilities with national retailers, junior and secondary schools, bus and rail station and M4 dual carriageway connection is available.
