Concerns over BNP councillor's address

THE address of a BNP councillor representing the Penygroes ward on Llandybie community council has been called into question.

Alun Lewis, himself a former councillor on the authority, says he found Cllr Kevin Edwards is registered at two addresses.

In a letter to community clerk Megan Bevan, Mr Lewis says while Cllr Edwards is listed an address in Llansamlet on his European election papers, he is also registered at an address in Penygroes.

“Whilst there is nothing wrong with being registered at two addresses (as long as two votes are not cast), the question of where he is residing is of great importance,” said Mr Lewis “As you will know, a community councillor must live within three miles of the boundary of the community council, which he or she serves.

“In this case I find it very strange that he should, on his nomination papers list the Llansamlet address, and I can only conclude that this is the place that he resides.”

Mr Lewis has now called on Ms Bevan to seek clarification. However, Cllr Edwards – who represents the BNP in the European elections on June 4 – maintained he had done nothing wrong.

“Unless the rules have changed my understanding is that you can only get pushed off a community council if you have failed to attend a meeting for six months,” he told the Guardian.

“What happened is that I moved out of Penygroes after separating from my wife. The lease on my current accommodation is up in October at which point I will be looking to move back into Penygroes.”

Commenting on fellow councillor Meirion Bowen’s recent decision to join the BNP, Cllr Edwards said: “I am confident Meirion will be a fantastic asset to our party.”

Is this the same Alun Lewis who having given up his seat on the Community Council in 2008 stated on the following link

Cllr Alun Lewis has called for Mr Edwards' election to Llandybie community council to be withdrawn claiming few residents were aware of Mr Edwards views when he put himself forward for one of five vacant council seats.

"I will stand against him if I have to," Cllr Lewis said.

"Kevin Edwards has only just moved to the village, hardly any of the residents of Penygroes know him and they aren't happy about his election to Llandybie community council," he said.

"He has used the connections of Michael John Green to gain a nomination.

What right did Alun Lewis have to claim that he would stand against Councillor Edwards. He had resigned his seat it was his decision. How embarrassing that he expected to bypass the democratic process and "Stand against him if I have to." Democracy Mr Lewis is for everyone and not just for you when you do not like it's outcome.

Mr Lewis is so ill informed that he did not even bother to check whether Councillor Edwards was new to the village. For the record Councillor Edwards had lived in the village for four years.

Is this the same Mr Alun Lewis who took it upon himself to hound out of Llandybie Community Council a certain former Councillor Mark Lewis.

Is this the same Alun Lewis that delivered misleading third party "Anti-Fascist" leaflets throughout Penygroes while pretending to be the agent of Councillor Sian Thomas ?

Is this the same Alun Lewis who disappeared from Penygroes a few years ago for reasons other than a normal heterosexual marriage breakdown.

Although Councillor Edwards has always been reluctant to admit the following, during and after his campaign in Penygroes he was subject to several death threats. His former wife admittted a few months after the election that she had been sleeping at nights with her mobile phone next to the bed for fear of attack.

Having known Councillor Edwards for a long time I am aware of the malicious whispering campaign that has continued by certain individuals from Plaid behind his back.

Wherever Councillor Edwards lives for the time being his commitment to the people of Penygroes is beyond question. He probably has the highest attendance record of any Penygroes Councillor and is easily accessible either by email or by phone.

As an avid follower of politics its plain to see that both Plaid and Labour are really scared of the BNP and its huge growth across the UK. I predict they will gain an AM next time and breakthrough to county council levels in the next 2 years. I suggest everyone visits www.theyworkforyou.c
om to see the huge expenses claimed by the likes of Adam Price and Nia Griffiths and co. They are no better than any of the rest. You can almost smell their fear of the BNP. I know who will be getting my vote on june 4th
